As a pediatrician who is also a lactation consultant (IBCLC), I incorporate breastfeeding support into all of my visits with breastfeeding babies and their parents. Whether parents of newborns are working on getting breastfeeding established, older babies are starting to eat complementary foods, or parents are ready to wean, I am available for support and advice. I can help trouble-shoot while maintaining the breastfeeding relationship and helping families meet their feeding goals.
The decision of how to feed an infant is a personal one and is often based on many different factors, including the breastfeeding parent's health history and previous experience with breastfeeding, infant's health history and anatomy, milk supply, parents' return to work plans, and personal preference among others. For parents who do choose to breastfeed, there are often impediments that make it difficult to establish and maintain breastfeeding. My goal is to support all families in meeting their infant feeding goals, whether they want to breastfeed for 2 years, 2 months, or not at all.
For non-birth parents who are interested in induced lactation, I have experience with the Newman-Goldfarb Induced Lactation Protocol.
